(B+) This movie kicked ass. Literally! I didn't notice it in the theaters for very long. I think I was also coming down off a long high of Hero, House of Flying Daggers, and a couple other Netflix'd foreign films. I'd also been scared by a little movie called Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. I wasn't too hopeful about what to expect from this movie. I was pleasantly surprised. It had a little bit of everything. "In Shanghai, China in the 1940s, a wannabe gangster aspires to join the notorious 'Axe Gang' while residents of a housing complex exhibit extraordinary powers in defending their turf." I would've paid to see it in the theaters, but I think it was marketed all wrong. It wasn't as hokey as the previews might lead one to believe.
